Fitna – Yeah, that “anti-islamic/anti-muslim” dutch movie
Except for the Dutch nobody knows the dutch better than me. I like to think. So a dutch guy puts out a so-called anti-islamic snippet out. I’m all up on it and watching it.
I don’t get it, I really don’t. It quotes stuff from the Koran, which I have myself read once upon a time (you know, for furthering my personal culture pool). The stuff is there, and it is translated quite on par. Then, it parallels that with (horrifying for some, delightful for others) images of suicide missions that led to the death of thousands of people. Some like to call those acts TERRORIST ATTACKS. Some like to call those people TERRORISTS. It so happens these “TERRORISTS” are of the Islamic religion.
Now the media does what it does best. It takes a slightly controversial thing and makes a big shit out of it. Why? Cause it pays so damn well and cause people would rather read about a huge problem than a slight inconvenience.
Here’s some of the most prominent media giants feeding us shit :
Anti-Muslim Film Sparks Worldwide Condemnation
Dutch anti-Koran film’s Web site shut down
NATO fears over Dutch Islam film
I am really fucking happy even NATO has managed to succumb to the goal of terrorists: spread of terror. Let’s all go in a cave like those idiots in the news who believe the end of the world is coming this May and cower in terror. Maybe it is. I mean, when you read a sentence that starts with “NATO fears” a huge thing like a nuclear disaster prognosis might follow shortly. And by the way when someone quotes the BLAH means they are ANTI BLAH. You can quote me on that.
By all gods -(is this considered worthy of killing me..the fact that I am implying your god too by generalization?) -if a religion says anyone speaking bad of it should be killed then it must be ok. Sort of like the Rastafarian can smoke weed because you know, it’s their religion, other people should be allowed to kill, cause ya know..it’s their religion and we have to be fair in that.
Personally, I like to eat human meat. Preferably baby meat. It’s my religion. Are you offended? I am obviously joking and I am only admitting that it’s a joke due to the fucked up world we live in. Noone can really say what they mean anymore. Because you see if you say something bad you’re movie might be banned, you blog shutdown , your site banned from viewing by an entire country or your book burned. Like this back in 1933:
Anyway, and what do the Dutch do after this film comes out? They make a site called SORRY FOR THE FILM. And they swarm it uploading apologies and other crap like that. Why? Cause they don’t want to be blown up that’s why. They are sorry because their sorry ass lives in a country where the terrorist threat level is hitting high peaks. They are sorry they don’t have a vacation house in Hawaii and ultimately they are sorry that they live in a world where a film could get them all sunk right fucking under the North Sea! And that my friends is called acting terrorized. None of them is sorry for the guy who gets his head chopped off in the movie by the people who follow this book ad literam. None of them is sorry for the children left without parents or without limbs after attacks.
Hey I wonder if I could make a website called “9/11 victims say sorry for the film”. I would put some advertising on there and make a buck or two from the people clicking on it. What do you think? Food for thought.
PS: I am not putting the video up because I too am terrified and this is as much free speech as I feel I can exercise without being blocked from blogging.

So I don’t understand the relevance of this entry to the quitting of smoking, but great food for thought.
Also, I am not sure where you stand. I understand that one of your points IS how crap it is that western people’s free speech is being abridged. That another is that big-money media works by simplistic logics and it is offensive to imagine that it is trying to approach US, smart beasts who can add 2 and 2 together, in such a simplistic way …
But these are parts of a social status quo. We know, because we are smart beasts who can put two and two together, that making films about the Q’uran and about people who are Muslim and who blow themselves up, and who by a more or less widely accepted consensus are called terrorists is not politically correct. That authority figures will use authoritarian means to deal with it …
But I don’t think that the equation here is free speech films critical of the Q’uran and Muslim self-destructive individuals. The more there is of one, the more there is of the other and somehow, media and authority figures have the power to alter that equation. I think the equation is rather the degrees to which we play into constructing this type of understanding, pay attention to it, talk about it, try to comprehend it.
I don’t watch teevee and my life is all college readings and papers. I fancy myself smart and well-prepared. I know I am not well-informed. But watching stories like this doesn’t make me well-informed. Think about it. Does the NATO affect the marketability of your company, which is probably the most important element in your life? Does that Dutch film affect fertility rates in Romania, what i am interested in? NO. It does not … And so if it doesn’t, chill out and think of other, nicer things that don’t affect your life … Like how young eastern European women are got pregnant and when they start getting a little pregnant belly, are shipped to Spain as prostitutes. Or what flowers are in bloom at Belis or the ways in which the sunsets have been changing over the past few weeks as spring is wearing on …
I’m branching out what can I say.
“..chill out and think of..”
I am not the kind of person to be that chilled and think about such things. And I think yes. It affects a lot in the long run, and in the short run not the marketability but the spending. Here’s a simple example: no more company paid trip to Amsterdam in the next few months. In the long run it affects free speech. And all in all I hate the hypocrisy happening right now.
I think my point was that there is so many ways in which our free speech IS abridged.
And personally, I don’t think that the Dutch film-maker’s free speech is like mine as a Hungarian Romanian in Romania. I mean, I don’t think there is such a thing as “our” free speech. Us – who? World citizens? Well, it is highly problematic because not everyone lives in a ‘world’ – the imagined (global) political community if you want – to exercise such rights to begin with. And even if we do live in ‘free’ countries, our free speeches are abridged in different ways in different places.
the hypocrisy has been around for ever. I kept thinking the other day how recent political science is, whereas politics has been around ever since cogent creatures have been. I’d say even apes make politics because there is a sense of governance among them. There is some social order one way or another. Hypocrisy is as old as humanity. Just like with everything else, it is more invasive and in your face.
I understand your state of mind/heart. However, I’d relax and try to challenge it and see the ‘ways’ in which it is new, cos the very things is as old as walking humans. And forget about it … Amsterdam is cool, but there are so many other cool places too. Without the weed of course …
So sorry about that loss
